iPhone 13 should be readily available at launch thanks to Apple chip ‘lock down’

The iPhone 13 launch should be unaffected by the global chip scarcity.

Despite the global chip scarcity brought on by the Covid-19 outbreak, Apple appears to have risen above it all – at least when it comes to the iPhone 13.

According to Wave7 Research, which is cited by PC Gamer, the chipset scarcity is affecting virtually every manufacturer except Apple. This explains how Apple has been able to sustain such aggressive manufacturing targets for the iPhone 13, which will not only witness a 20 percent boost in production over the iPhone 12, but will also experience a 44 percent rise in demand from current iPhone owners in the United States.

Apple was able to lock down chipset supply significantly ahead of schedule, according to sources at Wave7 Research. Other OEMs were not in the same boat," said Jeff Moore, partner at Wave7, which compiles a monthly poll of smartphone share and pricing in the United States.

Interestingly, though AT&T has the most iPhone subscribers, it is the least affected by the chip shortage. T-Mobile, on the other hand, has struggled to maintain Samsung and OnePlus devices in stock. According to a T-Mobile store manager, "everyone but Apple" is affected.
